Ruth Marie (Wendholt) Towne
Ruth Marie (Wendholt) Towne, 77, of Newburgh, Ind., passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Ruth was born July 23, 1935, in Louisville, Ky., to Anthony and Marie (Werner) Wendholt. She graduated from Memorial High School, attended Indiana University
, and worked as a civil servant at WPAFB in Dayton, Ohio, where she met her future husband. After marriage they moved to Tonawanda, N.Y., and subsequently Lansing, Ill., and Cleveland, Ohio, until returning to the Evansville area upon her husband's retirement. She worked at the NASA
Lewis Research Center in Cleveland until moving to the Evansville area where she continued her government service with the FAA at the Evansville Air Traffic Control Tower until her retirement at age 71, with a total of nearly 30 years of government service between WPAFB, NASA and the FAA. She was active in Tonawanda, N.Y., in her parish branch of a diosician "Bishop's" Committee for childhood spiritual development and in Lansing, Ill., she was a member of the Jr. Women's Club for a number of years participating in civic activities. She has been a member of Saint John the Baptist Church and most enjoyed and cherished her faith, family and friends. She also loved homemaking, traveling, reading and playing bridge.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Charles Wendholt.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Myles Towne; son, Christopher Towne and spouse Terri, of Concord, Calif.; daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Towne and spouse Dr. Daniel Wilson, of Centennial, Colo.; grandchildren, Courtney and Michael Wilson, of Centennial Colo.; brother, David Wendholt and spouse Diane, of Newburgh; sister, Mary Sue Welte and spouse Eugene, of Newburgh; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday November 14, 2012, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday at Saint John the Baptist Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, IN 47630.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday November 15, 2012, at the church with Fr. Joseph Ziliak officiating.
Internment will be in Saint John the Baptist Mausoleum at a later date.
