Stanley Edward Pokorney
Stanley Edward Pokorney, 70, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Monday evening, November 19, 2012 at his home after a valiant fight with cancer.
Stan was born in Evansville, Indiana on September 26, 1942 to the late Edmand Lawrence and Bertha Irene (Gilles) Pokorney. He served in the United States Air Force as an electronics instructor. Stan graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and earned his Master of Science Degree in Theoretical Statistics from the University of Cincinnati. He worked for IBM in Software Development as a Project Manager. When Stan's son was young, he coached his soccer and baseball teams and would also referee. Stan also volunteered for the Sycamore Senior Citizens in Ohio. In his retirement, Stan developed his own software programs and offered them to universities at no charge. As a hobby, Stan loved reading books on advanced math such as calculus, statistics, quantum physics, and relativity. He also enjoyed being outside maintaining the beautiful landscape he personally designed.
Stan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Christine Elizabeth (Taylor) Pokorney of Evansville, IN; son, Paul (Cami) Pokorney and future granddaughter, Piper Taylor Pokorney of New York, NY, his brothers Wayne (Martha) Pokorney of Evansville,IN, Bill (Elaine) Pokorney of Evansville, IN, Steve (Margo) Pokorney of Evansville, IN, and Kenny (Carol) Pokorney of Evansville, IN, his mother-in-law Marzee Taylor of Evansville, IN, his sister-in-law Carol (Richard) Will of Evansville, IN, and his niece and nephews John Pokorney of Scottsdale, AZ, Annie (Jeff) Morrell of Indianapolis, IN, Laura (Craig) Miller of Indianapolis, IN, Bob (Lisa) Pokorney of Evansville, IN, Deborah (Rick) Pokorney of Indianapolis, IN, Dawn Pokorney of Princeton, IN, Melissa Pokorney of Madison, WI, Cathy Herrell of Evansville, IN, Jimmy Will of Evansville, IN, and Tony Will of Indianapolis, IN.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
A private visitation will be held for close friends and family from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday, November 23, 2012, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, concluding with a prayer service at 6:00 PM with Father David Nunning officiating.
