Walter Branch Clark Jr., 68, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013, at his home in Estero, Fla. Branch was born on September 11, 1944, in Atlanta, Ga., to Walter B. and Gladys (Wells) Clark.
Branch grew up in Atlanta, Ga. He graduated from Brown High School in 1962. He was awarded a National Merit Scholarship to Georgia Tech to study engineering but changed his mind. He entered the U.S. Army
and proudly served his country in Korea where he was in charge of a rocket unit and achieved the rank of Captain. After leaving the service he graduated from the University of Evansville with a Master's in Business Administration. Branch ran several successful businesses in Evansville, including a Maaco Auto Painting and Bodyworks, until his retirement in 1997. Branch was active in the Episcopal Church and was involved in the Downtown Kiwanis Club and Junior Achievement. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, and reading - especially anything related to U.S. history. He especially enjoyed spending time with his friends in Estero. He is remembered as a loving father and a loyal friend with a sharp wit and a generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gladys Clark; his beloved uncle, Gene Gulley; and aunts, Billy Gulley and Tommie Ulrich; and his beloved cat, Ripkitty.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan and her husband, Kevin Atkinson and their sons, Luke and Silas, of Los Angeles, Calif.; his cousin, Sondra and her husband, Tom Wright, of Atlanta, Ga.; his cousin, Linda Ulrich and her partner, Margaret Schenck, of Stockton, N.J.
Mr. Clark was cremated. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Marsh Landing Clubhouse in the community of Marsh Landing, in Estero.
