William A. Seymour
William A. Seymour, 81, of Evansville, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Signature Healthcare in Newburgh.
William was born July 25, 1932 in Bonnieville, Ky., the son of Phillip and Mary (Shacklett) Seymour. He graduated from Lockyear Business College and Brescia University. William was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he formerly served as an usher. He was a Command Sergeant Major of the United States Army
where he served for 25 years, retiring at the age of 42. William was awarded four Bronze Stars
and an Air Medal for combat, serving six overseas tours. He served five and a half years as adviser to the National Guard and US Army Reserve Units in southwest Indiana and Kentucky. William was honored with numerous awards by foreign governments and for Meritorious Service, Good Conduct, Overseas Occupation and Defense and Length of Service. He was a member of numerous military and veteran organizations including Kentucky Colonels. William was also a licensed real estate broker and general contractor who founded PREP, Inc. and Better Lawn Service. He enjoyed travel, gardening and horse racing.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Donna (King) Seymour, of Evansville; sons, Phillip Seymour (Nancy) and William Seymour, both of Lacey, Wash.; sister, Mary Roberts, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; five Grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brother-in-laws; and one sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph L. Seymour; sister, Patricia Dungan; and a brother, Warner Seymour.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with Father Bernie Etienne officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will perform full military rites.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at noon on Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
