Boonville resident Woodrow A. Barnett passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville, Ind. He celebrated his 93rd birthday on January 6, 2013.
Woodrow loved the great outdoors and enjoyed trapping and walking in the woods looking for ginseng. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served his country as a heavy machine gunner in WWII. Woodrow was a 1939 graduate of Folsomville High School and was a member of the 1939 Warrick County Championship Folsomville Eagles Basketball team. He was a member of the Boonville Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion and Fur Takers of America. He retired from Peabody Coal Company, Lynnville Mine, and recently received a UMWA 60 year membership certificate.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Lois Barnett in 2005; parents, Thomas and Laura (Pemberton) Barnett; sister, Mildred Barnes; brothers, Howard, Wilbur "Hank", and Shelby Barnett.
Woodrow is survived by cousins, Robert Pemberton, Dianna Harris, Bill Pemberton and Jerry Joe Barnett; nieces, Diane Batson, Joanne McConnell, Tracey Lewellyn, Becky Evans; and nephews, Tommy Barnett, James Murray and Michael Leslie. Also surviving are two special friends, Ella Mae Ellison and Beverly Wheeler.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013, at Koehler Funeral Home-Boonville Chapel with Rev. William L. Carlisle officiating. Visitation will be 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville, Ind., with military rites by Warrick County Veterans Memorial Services.
