Donald Ray Axley
Owensboro, KY
Donald Ray Axley, 74, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at his residence under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born February 20, 1941 in Daviess County, KY to the late William R and Lillian Phillips Axley. He retired from Murphy Miller/Hon Company and was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed UK Basketball, was a NASCAR fan and a collector of memorabilia.
Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Axley, 2 sisters, Avis Roby and Theresa Norris and a grandson, Jeremy Lanham.
Surviving is his wife, Norma Jean Axley, 3 children, Michael R. Axley (Heather), Donna Lanham (David), Stacy Roberts (Greg), 7 grandchildren, Brittany, Jarred (Ashley), Joshua, Brandi (Nathan), Madison, Hannah and Tanner, 2 great grandchildren, Adalyn and Paizlee, 1 sister, Anna Highsmith, 3 brothers, Arthur Axley, David Axley (Ima), Michael Axley (Gaye) and 1 sister-in-law, Patt Axley and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be noon Friday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Prayers said Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
