Ann Adkins

Ann Adkins, 73 of Evansville passed away at 4:27 am, Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at her home.
Ann was born September 19, 1939, in Evansville to John and Wilma (Veller) Thompson. She attended Memorial High School and is a member of Calvary Chapel. Ann started her career in retail, selling cameras at Shoppers Fair and Smith and Butterfield camera departments. There she met her husband William "Bill" Adkins, a photographer for the Evansville Courier Newspaper. Having four children, she began a new career in child care; first as a home day care provider and later as a preschool teacher. Ann later became the Day Care Director for Kiddie Kampus and Moppet World where she also organized workshops for staff and parents. As a member of 4C (Community Coordinated Child Care) she was a nominee for Day Care Teacher of the Year. Ann also served on many of the 4C committees and was a past board member and Vice President for the organization. She eventually retired to care for her husband who had a long illness until his death in 2011.
Ann is survived by her children; daughter Carrie Ann (Adkins) Long (Stephen) of Ft. Wayne, IN; sons William Scott (Sandra) of St. Augustine, FL, Terry Allen (Angela) of Evansville and Benjamin Todd (Tawn) of Chandler, IN; sisters Mary Ellen (Steve) Sullivan of Indianapolis, IN, Cathy (Larry) Osborne, Phyllis Voyles and Rebecca Thompson, all of Evansville; grandchildren Christopher (Amanda) Adkins of New Orleans, LA, Benjamin (Stacey) Adkins of Jacksonville, FL, Jeffery Adkins of Henderson, KY, Jody and Christian Adkins of Chandler, IN, Melissa Adkins of Evansville and Natalie Simmons of Grove City, OH, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, William "Bill" Adkins in 2011, and brothers Richard and Jack Thompson.
A special thanks to her friend of 50 years, Karen Sights; hospice nurse and friend, Lori Reynolds; and Dr. Sheryl Ziegler for their caring ways during this time of illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with Chaplain Carolyn Edwards officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 2 pm until 7 pm, Friday, April 26, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
