Betty J. Miller Alvey, 87, of Newburgh, passed away at 2:52 pm, Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Hamilton Pointe Rehabilitation from complications after suffering a stroke.
Betty was born February 9, 1926 in Englefield, Indiana the daughter of Ervin and Dorothy (Thompson) Temme. Betty had worked for Swift and Co. Packing for 13 years which is where she met the love of her life, her late husband James "Carlos" Miller. Betty had also worked for Emge Packing, Unique Cleaners and as a door greeter for Super K-Mart.
She and Carlos married, raised their two daughters and spent many years making treasured memories with them and their children in their home on Evansville's West Side. Betty and Carlos were also founding members of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church. After Carlos's death, Betty had the good fortune to meet and marry Birdie Alvey, whom she shared her life with until his death. For the last 10 years of Betty's life she spent her time with her special companion, her dog, Mollie Sunshine.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Hamilton Pointe Health and Rehabilitation, Deaconess Gateway ICU for their care and compassion and SWIRCA for their provided resources.
She is survived by daughters, Sandi Doss (Pete Willis) of Newburgh and Jeanne Bihm (Paul) of Evansville; brother, Donald Temme of Evansville; grandchildren, Kerri Brown (Scott), Lisa Sellers, Layne Greenwood (Kim) and Lori White (Chris); great-grandchildren, Cydney Hohimer (Josh), Hailey Craig, Samantha Brown, Kayla White, Reed Greenwood, Serra Brown, Colton White, Daniel Sellers and Carson White.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, James "Carlos" Miller in 1987, second husband, Birdie Alvey in 1996, sister, Beverly "Eljean" Spencer and brother, Larry Temme.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Pastor Glyn Pfohl officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 pm until 7 pm, Wednesday, November 6, 2013 and from 10 am until service time, Thursday, November 7, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
