Betty Jean (Fuhrman) Risley, passed away at 7:20 am, March 28, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital.
Betty was born October 6, 1929 in Jasper, Indiana the daughter of Walter and Annetta (Huebner) Fuhrman. She was 1947 graduate of Jasper High School where she was active in Glee Club and Band. After high school graduation she worked for Dr. Heldt in Jasper, IN and the Jasper Hospital. Betty married Dave Risley in 1951. Dave's Air Force career took them to Biloxi, Mississippi, San Antonio, Texas and Washington D.C. After the Air Force, Betty and Dave settled in Evansville, Indiana in 1956. They started Risley TV and Sales and Service in 1958.
Betty was a dedicated business woman and partner in what is now Risley Electronics, Inc. During her 55 year career at Risley's, she worked tirelessly to grow the business from a small shop on W Franklin St to a multi-store corporation. Her passion and devotion was providing outstanding customer service. She was the ultimate problem solver and, along the way customers and employees considered her a friend and "mother" figure.
Betty became well known among the leaders of consumer electronic manufacturers. She was a trailblazer in the fast growing consumer electronics industry and her advice was sought and respected by leaders in the field. Because of Risley's success, Betty visited many foreign countries to be recognized for her talents. Attention to detail, her work ethic and her love of helping people were her driving force.
Betty loved sports! Whether it was watching her grandchildren, or her favorite Big Ten team (she loved them all), she was a big cheerleader at heart. Betty spent many a night going to UE and USI basketball games. While at USI, Bruce Pearl encouraged Betty to join the board of directors of the USI Varsity Club. She enjoyed her time on the board, especially interacting with the coaches and players.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and was active in various church groups.
Surviving are her daughter, Myra Risley Perrin and son in law Jeff Perrin of Indianapolis, IN; son, Mark Risley and daughter in law Nadine Risley of Evansville; grandchildren, Joseph Risley Perrin, Andrew Risley Perrin, Sam Risley, and Lauren Risley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dallas and Lavere Fuhrman.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday March 30 with visitation from 9am to service time at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 pm until 7 pm, Friday March 29 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
