Cecil J. Baker

Cecil J. Baker, 92, of Newburgh passed away Tuesday May 21, 2013 at VNA Charlier Hospice. He was born December 15, 1920 in Central City, KY.
Cecil was a graduate of the University of Kentucky in 1947 and was an avid UK basketball fan. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corp during WWII where he flew 191 combat missions. He received the American Campaign and Asiatic Pacific Service Medals, Air Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Victory Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Cecil retired from Whirlpool after 36 years as an engineer. He was a member of the Whirlpool Management Club, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Cecil attended St. John the Baptist Church in Newburgh. He was an avid carpenter and woodworker. He enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, fishing and gardening.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lizzie (Geibel) Baker.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Kay (Fehn) Baker; sons, Gregory Baker (Louise) of Cupertino, CA, Barry Baker (Ann) of Clearwater, FL and Kent Baker (Theresa) of Liberty Township, OH; daughters, Cheryl Harris (Michael) of Elberfeld, IN and Gwen Moore (Bob) of Muncie, IN; grandchildren, Natasha, Michelle, Scott, Lizzie Mae, Amy, Kayla, Christopher, Alexander and Matthew Baker, Serena and Britney Harris, Katherine, Bobby and Jacob Moore; sister, Mabel Brangers; brother, Gathiel Baker and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 - 2:00 pm Saturday May 25, 2013 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home with Fr. Joe Ziliak officiating.
Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
