Daniel A Williams Jr passed away on November 17,2012 at 1:40 pm at Deaconess Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born April22,1925 in Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel A Williams Sr. and Ninabell M Williams, son Charles J Williams, brothers Bass (Bill) Williams, Roy Williams and sister Mary Morris. Dan was of a strong Lutheran faith.Dan started work at the age of 11 for Vince Cheatham as a general clean up boy and polishing repairs at the Watch Shop& Mfg.Trade Shop for Local Jewelers, for 40 accounts through Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. He worked there until he was drafted in the Navy in 1943. After serving his time he returned to his job in 1946. The Watch Shop was sold to Wilbur Weisling and Dan worked for him until 1963 when he purchased Paul Forston Jeweler beginning Daniel Williams Mfg. Jeweler doing all this in the same block that he was born and raised in. Dan continued his business at 311 Locust Street where all four of his sons and daughter worked with him. In 1984 Jerry pulled his wife Charlie into the business so that Dan could go golfing or whatever he wanted to do as long as he came in every day.Charlie worked with her husband and Dan for 20 years. Jerry was the one with the same love for the business and worked by his father's side for 45 years.
Dan had been in the jewelry business for 75 years. In 1996 the store moved to their new locate 3101 Covert Ave. and although semi retired in 1994 but continued to open the store daily and look forward to talking and kidding with customers as they came and went. He favorite past time was golf, a love he never got over. After working out with his son for 4 months he got his first hole in one at Fendricks hole #8,171 yards with a 6-iron witnessed by his long time golfing buddy Kenny Wilson. Later he got his hole in one. He loved fishing and the horse races. Normally with Kenny by his side. They were friends that just couldn't be beat. He was known for his pleasant personality, practical jokes and whatever he could get by with and pass the blame on someone else as doing. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him but the memories and stories that will be told to keep him alive in our hearts and smile on our faces. Surviving are sister Ruby Cochran (Chicago IL), sister-in-law Rosemary Williams, sons Daniel A Williams III (Linda) Mark A Williams (Sue B), . Jerry M Williams (E. Charlie) daughter Vicki Jones-Smith (Reggie) all of Evansville. Grandchildren Andy & Jarred Williams, Trudy Ramsey (Harry)Robert King (Angela) and Francis J Jones. Great-grandchildren Devon Williams, Brianna Williams, Jeffrey King, Brittney Ramsey (Derek Myers), Zachary Ramsey, Jorden King and Robert King Jr.,Anna Nerdholdz Great great grandchildren Jaylynn King, Evan and Brayden Myers, Emma and Abigal Nerdholdz and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Deaconess Hospital, nurses, staff, Hospice, Dr. Ballou and Dr. Merhzad for their help during our time of need. There will be no service to the public. Private service for family only.A wake in Loving Memory for Daniel A Williams Jr. will be held Dec. 10th at Williams Jewelers for 3101 Covert Ave, Evansville IN 47714 for customers and friends, 11 a.m. to 6p.m. From our family to yours be Thankful for what you have today, tomorrow it could be gone.
