Dennis Ray Mosby, 57, of Evansville, passed away, Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
Dennis was employed by the Evansville Fire Department for 23 years until Muscular Dystrophy forced him to take early retirement. During that time, he served for several years as the Co-Director of Central Dispatch. He loved his job as a firefighter because he enjoyed helping people.
He was member of AMVETS and Firefighters Local 357. Dennis was an avid football fan who enjoyed watching his Green Bay Packers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and getting together with family.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Norman "Red" and Joann Mosby; his grandparents, aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his son, Donnie (Kim) Mosby; his daughter, Dana (Robert) Myers and four grandchildren, Katelyn, Emily, Christopher and Evan, all of Evansville. Also surviving Dennis are two brothers, David (Debi) Mosby and Keith (Kathy) Mosby, both of Evansville and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rev. David Nunning officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where the Evansville Fire Department Honor Guard will conduct funeral rites.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 323 Metro Ave., Evansville, IN 47715 or to the Evansville Firefighters Local #357 Honor Guard, 550 S.E. 8th Street, Evansville, IN 47711.
Dennis' family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who helped care for him during his fight with Muscular Dystrophy.
