Donald 'Spike' Clay Cureton

Donald "Spike" Clay Cureton, 89, formerly of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at his home in York, S.C.
He retired from the Evansville Printing Corp. (now Evansville Courier Company) in 1986 after 38 ? years of service. He started employment in the Stereotype Department and retired as Maintenance Superintendent.
Don was a 65 year member of Evansville Masonic Lodge #64 and a member of the Scottish Rite. He had also been a member of Ohio Valley Woodworker's Guild, Tri-State Genealogy, Southwest Indiana Personal Computer User's Group, and a longtime member of the Southern Hollow Dulcimer and Folk Group. Don had been a volunteer at Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve.
Don was the son of the late Wilbur and Thelma Igleheart Cureton. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1942, and enlisted in the US Army Signal Corps, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He was discharged in February 1946.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Clara May Jones Cureton; son, Kenneth W. and Charlotte Bernhard Cureton, of Olympia, Wash.; daughter, Barbara A. Cureton Roby and Randy Hope, of York, S.C.; grandchildren, Catherine M. Roby and Jeff Baldridge, of Hickory Grove, S.C., Erin Cureton, of Olympia, Wash., and Trevor Cureton, of Olympia, Wash.; two great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol Jean Cureton; and sister, Madeline Cureton Carpenter Couch.
Don's family invites his friends and relatives to join them Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home-East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, in a celebration of his life and to share fond memories that he brought into our lives. A brief funeral service will be held at 3 p.m.
Private burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Evansville.
