Edna M. Enlow, 93, of Evansville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Good Samaritan Home.
Edna grew up in Jasper, Ind., and moved to Evansville after getting married to Gerald Dean Enlow.
In her younger years she was an avid bowler, golfer, and dancer. She also loved to travel. Edna became involved in area politics during the 1950's. She took her first political job at that time and continued to work in various political jobs on the local, state and federal level until she retired at the ripe old age of 85. She served as Treasurer of the Democratic Women's Committee, where she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Edna also worked as deputy clerk at the voting poles for many years, Oak Hill Cemetery and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff Safe-House. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. One of the highlights of her life was being invited to and attending the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy in 1961.
Edna lost her husband in 1959, at the early age of 40. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Cathy Doyle and Dotty Egg; and a great-grandchild, Adison Jones. She worked and lived by herself for 50 years until breaking a hip and moving to Good Samaritan Home. She owned and managed various pieces of rental properties throughout her life and worked on them personally until late in her life.
Edna is survived by two children, J. Michael Enlow (Cheryl Deming), of Boonville, Ind., and Gaile K. Jones, of Evansville, Ind. Edna is also survived by five grandchildren, Dr. Gerald D. Enlow (Ann), of Chandler, Ind., Christopher M. Enlow (Tsveti), of Portland, Ore., Nicholas K. Enlow (Taleigh), of Charleston. S.C., Jeffrey S. Jones (Stephanie), of Evansville, Ind., and Abby G. Foster (Josh), also of Evansville, Ind. In addition, she has seven great-grandchildren, Addison, Aidan and Ashton Enlow, all of Chandler, Ind., Kai Enlow of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Austin, Josie and Sophie Jones, all of Evansville, Ind.; and three cousins, Evelyn, Lorraine and Betty.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Father Ted Tempel officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
