Elizabeth "Libby" Doss

1927 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Elizabeth "Libby" Doss Obituary
Elizabeth (Hickman) Doss
Evansville, Ind.
Elizabeth "Libby" Hickman Doss, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on January 4, 2014.
Born Dec. 25, 1927 in Clendenin, WV, she was married to John L. Doss for 58 years.
Throughout her life, participation in a local Christian church was very important to her.
Having earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Ohio University in 1949, she worked at Dupont in WV, but spent most of her working career as a Mom, an Historical Interpreter at Conner Prairie and the Morris Butler House, and cooking open hearth Harvest Suppers at the Huddleston House.
She won many awards for her historical work, sewing, quilting, and cooking.
Although she did not garner any trophies for it, Libby "masterfully" raised three boys, exposing them to good food, homemade clothes, the great outdoors, the principles of self-sufficiency, and the importance of family.
Libby was preceded in death by her son, David; parents, Mary and George Hickman; and husband, John L.
She is survived by her sons, John H. (Mindy) and Paul (Heidi); grandchildren, Libby (Matt) Doublestein, Jonathan (Christy) Doss and David Doss; great-grandson, Caleb Doublestein; sisters, Mary Lou Butterworth and Kathryn McCrary; and sister-in-law, Betty Doss.
Private services will be held at a later time.
For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Indiana Historical Society.
Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.
