The Guest Book is expired.
Ellinor Hanger Goldman, 94 of Evansville passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital.
Ellinor was the youngest and last surviving of the nine children of William S. Hanger and Emma Mills Hanger. She was born September 16, 1918, on the family farm in Crawford County, Indiana, near the small rural town of Marengo.
Ellinor attended school for 12 years at Marengo and walked 2 miles in each direction every day. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1936 as valedictorian of her class. Following graduation from high school, she was employed in various clerical jobs until 1943 when she was employed by Union National Bank in New Albany, Indiana.
In 1947 a mutual friend introduced Ellinor to Charles Goldman, a bank employee from Evansville, Indiana. This introduction developed into a romance and she and Charles were married in 1948. In April they would have celebrated their 65th anniversary. Ellinor moved to Evansville in 1948 and has been a resident since that time. As a result of her banking experience, she was employed at Lamasco Bank in Evansville until 1952 when she retired to have a family.
Ellinor said, "As early as I can remember, I always wanted to be an artist." When she graduated from high school, she had an art scholarship. However, because of family issues and the economy she was unable to take advantage of it. Her artistic ambitions lay dormant until 1965 when she took a class at the Evansville Museum in painting with watercolors. This was the beginning of her 30+ year career as an artist. She became well known for her realistic watercolors of Tri-State landscapes. Ellinor participated in numerous shows throughout the area including invitational shows, juried shows and one-man shows. Ellinor was an active member of the Evansville Artist Guild, an organization of local artists that thrived during the 1970's and 1980's. She served as a director for several years and was both the president and the treasurer. For several years, she also was chairman of the committee that organized the annual Garvin Park Art Fair. Her watercolors hang in many homes and businesses throughout the area.
When they moved to Evansville in 1948, Ellinor and Charles joined St. James East United Methodist Church. They were both active members at St. James for 54 years. During this time, Ellinor was also an active member of the women's organization, the United Methodist Women. She served on all the committees at various times and was chairman of most of them as well as serving as treasurer for many years. After moving to the west side in 1995, Ellinor and Charles transferred their membership to The Turning Pointe United Methodist Church in 2002.
Ellinor and Charles have one son, Lawrence W. "Larry" Goldman who, with his wife Janita, lives in Washington, IL. They also have a grandson, Eric Goldman who, with his wife Mary, lives in San Diego, CA and a granddaughter, Kat Goldman Bierma, who with her husband Andrew, lives in Charlotte, NC.
