Evansville, Ind.
Gary R. Marx, age 64, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Gary had retired from for the United States Postal Service after 30 years as a mail carrier. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Gary earned two Purple Hearts for his service to his country. He was a member of the Riverbend Association, was an avid golfer, enjoyed spending time with his cat, Tag and loved bird watching, especially humming birds.
Surviving Gary are a daughter and her husband, Tamra Marx and Tim Eckels, of Evansville; a stepson, Kelly Nace, of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Janet Marx, of Evansville; and two brothers and their wives, Steve and Linda and Mike and Doris Marx, both of Evansville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Taryn Reynolds and Niklas Nace; and seven nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Dianne (Kerswick) Marx in 2009; and by his parents, Elmer "Bud" and June (Blackburn) Marx.
Military funeral rites will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at St. Joseph Mausoleum Chapel.
Friends may gather with the family from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
