James R. "Jim" Price

James R. "Jim" Price, 83, of Evansville passed away at 3:15 pm, Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Jim was born December 29, 1928 in Clay, Kentucky, the son of Burtis and Artie (Wilson) Price. He was a graduate of Delaware Grade School, a 1947 graduate of Central High School and attended University of Evansville Evening School. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army, serving two years as an Army Engineer European Theatre and was a member of VFW Post # 1114. Jim was a charter member of Terrace Parke General Baptist Church and served on several committees. He retired as manager of customer service from SIGECO in 1994 after 47 years. Jim was extremely active in his community serving on many boards and committees including Chamber of Commerce Leadership School graduate (1970), United Way Executive Training Program United Way Solicitor, Boy Scouts Sustaining Membership Drive, Easter Seals Telethon Pace Setter Division, Museum Legacy "82" Campaign, University of Evansville Fee Campaign and WNIN "86" Capital Campaign. Jim was a retired member and past president of Downtown Lions Club and retired board member of Goodwill Industries, Inc., Center City Corporation, Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee, Evansville Rescue Mission, Community Action Program of Evansville, SWIRCA, Welborn Baptist Hospital, Welborn Foundation and Oakland City University. Jim was also a member of Downtown Rotary Club. He was elected in 1973 to Evansville City Council and served 22 consecutive years. During Jim's City Council Service, he served with four Evansville Mayors' Russell Lloyd, Sr., Michael Vandeveer, Frank McDonald, II, and Russell Lloyd, Jr. He also served as Knight Township Trustee for 12 years and in 2005 was awarded Indiana Township of the Year. Jim received Distinguished Hoosier Award from Governor Mitch Daniels. He was also honored to have Price Park on Covert Avenue named for him. Jim was first and foremost a family man. He was always proud and ready to tell anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Jim was always a good friend to many people. He even made friends with the nurses and staff at Gateway in ICU 4th floor. His happiest times were when he was on family vacation with all of his children and grandchildren. He and Treva also took many memorable vacation trips with special friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Treva (Storey) Price of Evansville, daughters, Rebecca (Dave) Price Savage and Amy (Jason) Price McDowell, all of Evansville, son, Denny (Rebecca) Price of Evansville, sister, Barbara (Bob) Adcock of Newburgh, grandchildren, Matthew, Luke and Andrew Savage, Shelby Price, Samantha (Brandon) Arnold and Evie, Titus and Manalemo "Mo" McDowell, sisters-in-law, Brenda Price, Marcy Price, Bonnie Clark and Pat (Chuck) Langford, brother-in-law, Marvin Underwood and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jean Underwood, brothers, Reverend Gaylon Price and Bill Price and sister-in-law, Dean Arvin.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Monday, December 3, 2012 at Terrace Parke General Baptist Church, 2145 E. Columbia St., Evansville with Carlos Haskins officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 pm until 7 pm, Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville and again from 9am until time of service at 10 am, Monday at the church.
