Marthy 'Marty' Whitney Mudd
Evansville, Ind.
Marthy "Marty" Whitney Mudd, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the age of 84. She was born September 9, 1927, in Boonville, Ind., to Orpheus Charles and Myrtle (Judd) Whitney.
Martha lived a very full life; a life filled with educational opportunities and experiences, service to her country and her family. She graduated from Boonville High School in 1945, attended Indiana University, obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Evansville College and earned her Master of Science Degree in Speech and Drama from Indiana State University.
Proudly serving her country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Martha was qualified in air traffic control.
Evansville Central High School was Martha's home away from home for 26 years, where she taught English, Literature, Speech and Drama, directed plays, coached speech and debate teams and was an assistant coach for the girl's basketball team. She retired in 1989 from the EVSC.
She was an avid reader and loved traveling the United States and abroad.
Martha was a 50 year member of DAR, Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine and also a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the IU Varsity Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lee Fuchs (Perry), of Evansville; son, Noel "Bud" Mudd III (Diana), of N. Las Vegas, Nev.; grandsons, Jacob Whitney Fuchs, of Evansville and EM3 Colin Judd Fuchs, of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; great-grandson, Hayden Michael Fuchs; sister, Sharon Sue Whitney Erwin, of Newburgh, Ind.; and nephew, Chad Andrew Erwin (Andrea), of Fishers, Ind.
The family would like to thank the fine people at Heritage Center and Heritage Hospice for their loving care of Martha. Their care, compassion and insight is beyond compare.
