Mary Jean Robb
Evansville, IN
Mary Jean (Agar) Robb, 25 days shy of her 96th birthday, of Evansville, IN passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Parkview Care Center, her home for the last seven years. Born in Patoka, IN and reared in Vincennes, IN, Mary Jean was the daughter of Lenetta V. (Bottoms) and Owen V. Agar Sr.
At an early age, Mary Jean began working as a waitress to help with family finances and for a short while, co-owned Jean's Diner in Lawrenceville, IL. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed hosting many family dinners throughout her lifetime. Her apple dumplings, a favorite, were enjoyed by family and friends and for many years were requested for church dinners. Out of town family members looked forward to her homemade cheese spread and ham salad sandwiches loving prepared and packed for their long drives home.
In the mid-seventies, Mary Jean and her poodle, Vicki, brought happiness to many youngsters and older folks throughout the tri-state when Vicki, dressed in outfits designed and sewn by Mary Jean, performed for them. She taught Vicki to dance and prance, jump rope and jump through hoops and over hurdles, all on her hind legs. The late Joe Aaron of the Evansville Courier & Press, as other reporters, visited Mary Jean and Vicki in their home wrote articles for publication on several occasions.
Surviving to cherish the memories of Mary Jean are her devoted local and long-distance caregivers, son and daughter, William Eugene Robb (Debra) of Evansville and Nicola Akin (Gary) of Houston, TX. Surviving also is son, Robert Alan Robb of San Carolos, Sonora, MEX; grandchildren, Nickola Hallett (Rusty) of Lexington, KY, Anthony Robb (Sandra) and Denver Robb (Beverly) of Evansville, Glenda Akin Boyko (Gray) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, CAN, Joellen Akin of Lansing, MI, Diana Akin Popp (William) of Spring City, PA, Danielle Verno (Dennis) and Donna Deslauriers of Phoeniz, AZ; great-grandchildren, Danielle Welch Todd, Sara Robb Rhoades, Gina, Jody, and Cassandra Robb, Chad and Derrick Robb, Kelli and Erin Heeney, Gray Bancroft and Joel Hutchings, Cassana and Cailin Popp, Cierria Vailes, Kendra and Amber Robb, Brittni Verno, Kasie and Hayden Deslauriers, Brandi Landers; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Jean is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Eugene (Gene) Arthur Robb; her parents; brothers, Owen V. Agar Jr. and William P. Agar; sisters, Catherine Agar Morris; daughter-in-law, Sondra K. Paulson Robb; grandson, Timothy A. Robb; and infant great-grandson, Sam Michael Heeney.
The family will welcome visitors for a time of celebration of Mary Jean's life at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd, Evansville, IN from noon to 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 3, 2013. Visitation will resume from 10:00 to 11:00 AM preceding the funeral on Monday at the funeral home. Mary Jean will rest beside Gene at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family is grateful to Dr. Gordon Vogel and Dr. Scott Uloth, the staffs of The Terrace at Solarbron, Parkview Care Center, and the VNA Charlier Hospice Center for the care extended to our mom. And, to Kris Dasch and the other special angels at Parkview for making mom's life better…by simply holding her hand, bringing her little gifts, letting her know she was loved…thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Gratitude is expressed to the nurses, aids and administrators of Parkview who so compassionately cared for our family during mom's last few days.
