Norman Douglas Gee, 83 of Newburgh passed away at 8:50 pm, Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Norman was born June 16, 1930 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada the son of Harry and Mary (Bye) Gee. He received his Certified General Accountants Association Degree in Ontario. Norman had been employed in the trucking industry since 1960 as Chief Financial Officer working until 1968 with Inter-City Truck Lines Limited in Toronto, Ontario. He then moved to the United States and became a US Citizen in 1973. He had worked for M&M Transportation, Inc. and Jones Motor, Inc. before joining Atlas Van Lines, Inc. as Vice-President Finance and Treasurer in 1979. Interim promotions followed to the positions of Senior Vice-President then President. Norman was promoted to Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Van Lines, Inc. in 1989 and retired December 1996. Norman was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was also a member of Sagamore of the Wabash, Rolling Hills Country Club and Kennel Club. Norman served on St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation Board and Advisory Board. He was a member of The Dickens Fellowship and Red Brush Rifle Range and past chairman of the Board of the American Movers Conference, Washington, DC.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine (Davidson) Gee of Newburgh, IN, daughter, Linda Gee Sugimoto (Alex) of Newburgh, IN, sons, Douglas Gee (Cheryl) of Daphne, AL and Bradley Gee (Julie) of Flower Mound, TX and grandchildren, Casey Gee; Amanda Gee McLain and her husband Jim and their children, Blair, Payton and Jamison; Heather Gee and her daughter, Avery Adkins and Lauren Stroud. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Gee.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm, Monday, June 24, 2013 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 301 SE 1st St., Evansville with Reverend Dr. Richard Godbold officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2 pm until 6 pm, Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville and again from Noon until time of service at 1 pm, Monday at the church.
