Robert G. Zimmerman, 90, of Newburgh, passed away Thursday October 31, 2013 at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 2, 1922 in Philo, OH to William and Daisy (Knapp) Zimmerman.
Robert served in WWII in the Pacific Theater with the 533rd Engineers Battalion. He was a member of VFW 2953 and served for years with the Retired Veterans Memorial Club as Officer of the Day. From 1978 - 1979 he served as District Commander of the 8th District VFW and was an All American Commander. He retired from Hoosier Energy Power Glant in Petersburg, IN as a master mechanic. Robert was formally a member of Trinity Lutheran Church
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Hilton; brothers, William and Arthur Zimmerman and sister, Gold Mills.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; son, Bernard Zimmerman (Suetta) of Madison, IN; grandchildren, Nathan and Doug Eisele, Bernadette Ross, Suetta Lynn Brooks, Ryan Hilton and Jenny Riley; 8 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from1:00 - 6:00 pm Sunday November 3, 2013 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 am Monday November 4, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Don Berry officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where the Retired Veteran Memorial Club will conduct graveside services.
