Ruth L. Rehn, 98, of Evansville passed away at 7:25 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at The Heritage Center.
She was born February 12, 1915, in Driftwood, Okla.
She was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon, an elder, and on numerous committees. She was a loyal member of Pioneer Sunday School Class, Eastminster Presbyterian Women, and also helped with meal preparation in the church kitchen for many years.
Ruth was a member and officer of the National Garden Club and past-President of the Council of Evansville Garden Club. She was an enthusiastic gardener with her green thumb and was also an active member of Flower Growers Garden Club and Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, where she volunteered for many years. She also was a member of current History Club and thoroughly enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and working crossword Puzzles.
Ruth was a cheerful and loving person who devoted her life to serving God and helping others. She was a wonderful wife and mother as well, always enjoying helping with the preparation of the wild game and fish that her husband and sons pursued. An exceptional cook, she gathered recipes for "everything" and shared them with "everyone".
She is survived by three loving sons, Charles Rehn and wife, Nancy, of Bargersville, Ind., Stan Rehn and wife, Carol, of St. Louis, Mo., and Chris Rehn and companion, Joy, of Evansville; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was also a famous grandmother as, Trista, the popular Bachelorette who got married on national T.V., was her granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Hattie Cleal; three brothers, Leslie, Leonard, and Everett Cleal; two sisters, Ada Shackelford and Mildred Wessels; her husband, Edgar E. Rehn; and a precious daughter, Deborah E. Rehn.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Atria Senior Living and Tammy Johnson of Amedysis, Heritage Hospice, and especially The Heritage Center (Hearthside) for their tremendous care and kindness. The family would also like to thank Dr. Mohammed Allaw and a special angel in Ruth's life, Glenda Laskey.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Dr. Dennis Davenport officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
