Susan Blackburn
Mt. Vernon, IN
Susan Blackburn, 63, died peacefully Sunday, August 4, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Evansville, Ind., on January 30, 1950, the daughter of Mary Essie (Stein) and Billy Ray Williams. She grew up in rural Mt. Vernon and graduated in 1968 from Mt. Vernon High School.
Susan worked as a legal secretary and was a U.S. Bankruptcy Court clerk in Evansville. She served on the New Harmony Town Council and wrote the grant awarding New Harmony its first hook and ladder fire engine.
She loved gardening, crafting, crocheting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved abundantly, never said an ill word about anyone, was always forgiving and created beauty all around her.
Susan married Michael Blackburn on June 22, 1999. He survives in the home. She is also survived by a son, Scott Osborne (Nathalie), a daughter, Natalie Osborne Vaughan (Rob), and step-daughter, Michele Blackburn Chamness, all of whom she loved. She adored her six grandchildren, Collin and Kylie Osborne, Wyatt and Austin Vaughan, and John and Mark Chamness.
Other survivors include her mother, Essie Williams, sisters Sandra Vogel (Stanley), Joann Russell (Rick), a brother Billy C. Williams, and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Williams, a sister, Mary Hoffman, and a nephew, Bobby Rogge.
Visitation will be at Schneider Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and a service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 7th at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in New Harmony. Memorial contributions may be given to Gentiva Hospice and Trinity Church Sick Room Equipment Fund.
