Troy D. Rector, 89 of Evansville passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Evansville Protestant Home.
Troy was born October 9, 1923 in Bevier, Kentucky the son of Charles and Nola Rector. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Technician, 4th Grade, with the 325th Anti Aircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion as a Sergeant and expert marksman. Troy was awarded a Pacific Theater Ribbon, Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Troy worked as a self-employed contractor for 20 plus years and prided himself in his craftsmanship and honesty. Troy was an avid golfer and outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing, making many of his own lures. He enjoyed bowling, watching baseball, playing cards and anything he could share with his beloved wife, Clara, prior to her death. Troy had a love of the guitar, playing it since he was just a young lad with dreams of recording an album. However, he left to help his country fight in WWII and then started a family in lieu of his grand dream.
He is survived by daughters, Sharon (Jerry) McCormick, Brenda G. Raibley and Teresa (Greg) Grotius, sons, Steven Mark Rector and Charles Dale Rector, grandchildren, Jason (Marcy) Raibley, Jamie Raibley, Tod Dale and Kelly (David) McKnight, Stephen (Sherrie Mazotti) Wargel, Jr., Tara (Michael) Eddie, Caroline (Chris) Berney. Victor Jon Myers, Douglas (Laura) Rector, Chris Myers and Bob (Michelle) Williams and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years, Clara (Crabtree) Rector, several siblings, daughter-in-law, Clara Rector, son-in-law, Bruce Raibley and former son-in-law, Stephen D. Wargel, Sr.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Evansville Protestant Home and Hospice and all of his doctors.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 pm, Friday, August 30, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Reverend Eric Martin officiating. Burial will be Private.
Friends may call from 5 pm until time of service at 7 pm, Friday at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will perform full military rites.
