Wallace 'Bill' Adye M.D.
Evansville, Ind.
Wallace "Bill" Adye, M.D., 84, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Deaconess Hospital. He was born December 16, 1928, in Newtonville, Ind., to Wallace and Opal (Lamar) Adye.
Dr. Adye was a graduate of Evansville College, Indiana University Medical School and did his internship in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from Evansville College, Dr. Adye received an appointment to West Point Military Academy but declined, in order to enter medical school. After his internship Dr. Adye entered the Air Force and attained the rank of Captain serving as a medical officer. He began his medical practice with his good friend Dr. Roy Smith and they practiced together for over 20 years. In 1975, Dr. Adye became Director of the Deaconess Family Practice Residency Program, which he served for over 17 years. He continued practicing medicine until 2004, in the medical building named the "Wallace M. Adye MD Family Practice Center" in his honor. Dr. Adye served as president of the Deaconess Medical Staff, president of the Vanderburgh County Medical Society and president of the Indiana Academy of Family Practice. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Kennel Club and the Evansville Country Club where he enjoyed golfing and playing bridge with his many friends.
Dr. Adye was awarded the AAFP Achievement in Medicine Award for his 42 years of dedicated service and was recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award. He was honored as Director Emeritus in 2004 for his Spirit, Drive and Lifelong dedication to teaching family medicine residents.
Dr. Adye was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Gay; son, Wallace Adye III; brother, Arthur Adye Sr.; and sister, Alice Adye.
He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Alice; son, Bruce Adye M.D. (Misty); daughters, Tammy Adams (David) and Terri L. Chancellor (Steven); stepdaughter, Tara Ranard M.D.; grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Christy McMillan, Casey McMillan, Hunter Chancellor, Graham Adye and Remi Adams; sister, Eileen Spurrier; sister-in-law, Virginia Adye; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Ave., Evansville, IN 47710, and will continue from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salem United Methodist Church, 6311 Kratzville Rd., Evansville, IN 47710.
Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the church, with Rev. Randy Anderson and Fr. Phil Kreilein officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
