Warner "Hugh" Dunn, 83, of Evansville passed away at 9 pm, Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Hugh was born December 6, 1929 in Tipton County, Tennessee the son of Walter Marshall and Laura Mai (Warren) Dunn. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and moved to Evansville after being discharged in 1952. Hugh married Janet Parker in Oblong, Illinois on May 15, 1955.
Hugh and Janet owned and together with their sons Randall "Randy" and Gary operated Dunn Building Services for many years.
Hugh and Janet became members of East Side Baptist Church shortly after they were married and raised their sons there. His passion was singing in the choir at East Side Baptist, which is now American Baptist East, for fifty years, and doing construction work around the church properties when he was able. He also served as Sunday School teacher, deacon, trustee and in many other ways.
Preceding Hugh in death are his father and mother, Walter and Mai Dunn of Covington, TN; son Randall Hugh (Randy or R.D.) Dunn of Newburgh, IN; brothers Marshall and Ted Dunn, and sisters Elizabeth Bradshaw and Gladys Fleming, all of Covington, TN, and Christine Northcutt of Henderson, KY.
Surviving are wife Janet Dunn of Evansville; son and wife Gary K.. and Kathy Dunn of Newburgh, IN and their sons Theo and Tim Hagan; granddaughter and husband Anne and Craig McGowan of Jasper, IN and their son Colin Randall McGowan; former step-grandchildren Sara and John Rosenberger of Newburgh, and Katie Cornelius of Noblesville, IN. Also surviving are brother and wife Gene and Carole Dunn of Pensacola, FL; sister and husband Martha Dolores and Jimmy McDivitt of Dyersburg, TN; sister-in-law and husband Nikki and Mike Spears of Normal, IL; brother-in-law and wife Jerry and Mary Parker of Delavan, IL; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
Special thanks to Dr. Rick Ballou, ICU staff at St. Mary's Medical Center, our friends at American Baptist East and many others who have been so helpful during Hugh's prolonged illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 13, 2013 at American Baptist East, 6300 Washington Ave, Evansville with Pastor Jeff Stratton and Pastor Peck Axton officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 pm until 7 pm, Friday, April 12, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville and again from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, Saturday at the church.
