William Charles Clem, 81, of Evansville, Indiana, died peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at his home.
Bill was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 29, 1931. He graduated from Central High School in 1949, where he played on the baseball team and was an active alumni. Bill received an associate degree in business from Evansville College and enjoyed U of E basketball for many years. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard and served when they were called for active duty during the Korean War. He worked all his adult life for SIGECO (Vectren) and retired after over 40 years with the company. His last position was the Internal Auditor. He married his high school sweetheart Patricia (Patti) Plunkett on February 9, 1952. Bill was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for over 60 years and served in many capacities over the years, including Treasurer of the congregation. He also did volunteer work for the Alzheimer's Association and Deaconess Helping Hands.
Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Ann (Plunkett) Clem of Evansville, Ind.; daughter, Catherine (David) Simpson, of Zionsville, Ind.; son, Scott (Juanitta) Clem, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Clark and Molly Simpson, of Indianapolis, Ind., Willow and Ivey Clem, of Jacksonville, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Malia Wade, of Indianapolis, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Mildred Hussman, Dorothy Buske, Betty (Van) DePreist, Carolyn (James) Stagg and Delores Schweikart; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Pauline and Ervin Schweikart; and his half brother, Jimmy Schweikart.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 E. Diamond Ave. with Pastor David Wiist officiating.
Friends may visit from noon until service time Saturday at Browning Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Straight Ways program in care of Concordia Lutheran Church 2451 Stringtown Rd., Evansville, IN 47711.
