Rockport, Ind.
William Evans, 85, of Summerfield, Fla., passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Villages Medical Center in The Villages, Fla.
Bill was born in Terre Haute, Ind., on August 16, 1927, to the late William and Grace Evans. Bill was retired from the South Spencer County School Corporation where he served as Guidance Counselor and Athletic Director at South Spencer High School. Over his career, he coached basketball and baseball. His Rockport High School Baseball teams won numerous PAC championships, and his South Spencer High School team captured the IHSAA regional championship in 1967. With Evans at the helm, his Rockport American Legion teams were state champions in 1959 and 1961.
Bill was a member of the Indiana High School Baseball Hall of Fame, the South Spencer High School Wall of Fame and a recipient of the Arlie Skelton Memorial Award. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion Jenkins Post 254 and the Rockport Masonic Lodge 112.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Andrea E. Blackston and her husband, David S. Blackston, of Eustis, Fla.; and his two grandsons, Drew and Kyle, both of Eustis, Fla.
Services are 11 A.M. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial is in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport. The Rockport American Legion Post 254 will conduct military honors.
Visitation is from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, and from 8 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. A masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
