Donald S. Engbers, 70, of Newburgh passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014. He was born October 12, 1943 to Silvarius and Marie (Klene) Engbers.
Donald retired from Lever Bros. where he worked for 25 years as a sales representative. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Donald graduated from Memorial High School where he played first base with the Tigers. At the age of 17, he signed a professional contract with the Baltimore Orioles and played minor league baseball for 9 years. He graduated from West Texas State University. Donald helped coach Memorial baseball for several years and was an avid Tiger fan. He participated with the Hot Stove League in recent years and served in the US Army National Guard. He enjoyed playing golf.
Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margie; son Trent Engbers, PhD. (Kimberly) of Evansville; grandchildren, Reagan, Ella Clare and Donald Engbers; sisters, Suzie Wire and Linda Childers of Evansville; and brother Steve Engbers of Martinsville, IN; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Ziemer Funeral Home, East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd., Evansville, IN, with Father Bernie Etienne officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-state Hot Stove League or to Memorial High School, 1500 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
