Jenny Lou Bockting, 76, of Newburgh, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Deaconess Gateway. She was born February 19, 1937 in Jasper, IN to the late William P. and Theresa (Birk) Mehringer.
Jenny married Franklin Bockting on April 9, 1959 in St. Joseph's church, Jasper, IN.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
She was a loving wife, mother, mamaw, a wonderful cook, baker, and an excellent refinisher of antique furniture. She also loved to garden with her husband, Franklin and canning the many fruits and vegetables they grew.
Over the past 23 years Jenny suffered many illnesses and a major stroke five years ago. After being confined to a wheelchair following the stroke, Jenny never gave up her zest for life. She never asked why me about her illness and her faith in God kept her strong until the end. Jenny will be greatly missed by her husband and family.
In addition to her parents, Jenny was preceded in death by two sisters, Armella (Gib) Hochgesang from Schnellville and Lorena (Oscar) Englert from St. Anthony, and a brother Thomas who died in infancy.
Jenny is survived by her husband of 54 years, Franklin Bockting; son, Thomas Franklin (Debra) Bockting of Newburgh; daughters, Brenda Lou (Robert) Cox of St. Phillips and Sharon Kay (David) Brantley of St. Phillips; seven grandchildren, Carey (Katie) Bockting of Evansville, Amanda (Travis) Van Bussum of Owensboro, Jennifer (Anthony) Huffman of Newburgh, Kristen and Matthew Cox of St. Phillips, and Dawson and Jackson Brantley of St. Phillips; brother, Ambrose (Mary) Mehringer of Jasper, two sisters, Anna Mae (Roman) Hasenour of Ferdinand, and Jeanie (Edgar) Stetter of Jasper and many nieces and nephews.
Mass will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road. Friends may visit Tuesday, from 2:00 to 8:00PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel with a memorial service at 7:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Church Cemetery in Huntingburg, IN.
