Joyce Marshall Sherrill, 62, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky on August 30, 1951 to the late Aubrey Glen and Margaret (Hardy) Payne. During grade school the Payne family moved to Evansville Indiana and Evansville became their home. Joyce graduated from Central High School in 1969, later married and started her family becoming the proud mother of her only child, Jennifer. Family and friends were important to Joyce and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce worked as a secretary in various offices throughout the Tri-State during her 40 year career. She retired from the Evansville Police Department Narcotics Unit a few years ago. Joyce was active in her community and local politics and served with her husband as a precinct committeewoman for the Democratic Party. She also obtained her real estate license. Talented with her hands, she enjoyed quilting and sewing.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Jason) Cummings of Wadesville, IN; brother, Ron (Barb) Payne of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Aubrey and Justin Cummings; her companion, Chuck Chochola of Evansville, IN and her little dog, Maggie Beth.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Marshall in 2001 and her second husband, Paul Sherrill in 2013.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 28, 2014 at St Theresa Catholic Church, 600 Herndon Dr., Evansville, IN 47711 with Father John Breidenbach celebrating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 and from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.
