Mr. Howard Lamkin, Sr., peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at his residence in Solarbron Retirement Community in Evansville, IN at the age of 95. He was born July 16, 1918 in Meade County, KY., the fifth of six sons of Arthur and Jane Lamkin. A graduate of Ekron High School, he was a farmer, auctioneer, and real estate broker. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel and a Realtor.
He married Lillian Stith, April 30, 1944 in Guston, KY. Their first and only home until retirement in 1989 was the family farm at Ekron. In 1946 their first son, Howard Jr. was born and then in 1950, their second son, Thomas Elwood arrived.
While living in Meade County, Howard was an active member of Ekron Baptist Church and later Buck Grove Baptist Church, serving in various capacities including music director, deacon, and Sunday Scholl teacher. He was a leader in
the Salem Baptist Association serving both as moderator and clerk for many years. As his children were growing up he was active not only in the church but also with the PTA of the local elementary school his sons attended. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Brandenburg Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite.
After retiring from his life as a farmer, Howard and Lillian moved to Irvington, KY. After several years they found a home in Evansville, IN to be closer to his old son, Howard Jr. From independent living he and Lillian moved into the Solarbron Retirement Community in 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lillian, his two sons, Howard Jr., and his wife, Marilyn of Evansville, IN, Thomas and his wife, Terri of Carthage, N.C. Howard is the grandfather of five grandsons, Dru Howard, Brandon Michael, Blake Alan, Thomas Elwood Jr., and Seth Hunter, and Kalie is his one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. E.D.T Saturday, March 29 at Salem Baptist Church, 5286 State Road 79, Brandenburg, KY. with Rev. Adrian Lamkin Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery in Ekron, KY.
