John Richard "Dick" Mills, 90, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Dick was born in Evansville, Ind., on August 28, 1923. He was a 1941 graduate of Bosse High School and retired as an engineer with Whirlpool, formerly Sunbeam and International Harvester, in 1984. Dick pitched for the Evansville Braves in the early 1940's, was an avid bowler, golfer, enjoyed all sports and was an 80 year member of First Baptist Church.
Dick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Charlotte (Blair) Mills, of Evansville, Ind.; a son, Richard "Bruce" (Suann) Mills, of Evansville, Ind.; and grandchildren, David Alan Mills and Amanda Rose Mills.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nellie (Hildebrandt) Mills; and four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home 601 N. Boeke, Evansville, Ind., with Pastor Mary Hurley officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit from 3 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, Evansville, IN and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
