Mary Josephine Folz Ryan
Evansville, IN
Mary Folz Ryan, of Washington, DC, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed on at the age of 89 this past Sunday, April 27, 2014.
She was born in Evansville, Indiana, on August 2, 1924, and graduated in 1945 from Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in Saint Louis, MO. In 1946, following the end of World War II, she married Roy Ryan, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and submarine Officer.
Mild mannered, warm, and gracious, Mary was a role model, loyal friend and sanctuary to each of her children. She was known for her quiet elegance, gentle demeanor and subtle wit. More than anything, Mary was fulfilled by, and exemplified, motherhood and home life. She was a devoted and loving mother to a family of nine children (and to honorary family member Lula Belle Baker, who helped to maintain the household and raise each of the children). She was predeceased by her son Tom and infant Mary. Surviving children include Roy, Kitty, Daniel, JP, Matt, Anne, and Mary.
She was knighted by the Pope into the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will light our hearts forever.
A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Mausoleum, with burial following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Evansville with Father Ted Tempel officiating.
Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville handled the local arrangements.
