Rex Johnson
Evansville, Ind.
Rex Allen Johnson, 74, of Evansville, passed away on May 21, 2014, in the Deaconess Hospital. Rex was born April 9, 1940 in Muncie, Ind., the son of the late Robert Carl Johnson and Olive Marie Wagner. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the VFW Post 1114. He was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church.
Rex retired from Alcoa in 1994. He was the owner of PJ Painting, and one of the best finish painters in the area. Rex was known as an artist with amazing abilities and creativity in his paintings and drawings throughout his life. Rex loved airplanes and to skydive in previous years. He cherished the arts, music, and books. He had a patent on a wallpaper border holder he invented for his PJ painting business that was named for his beloved wife, Phyllis Ann Johnson who survives him.
He is also survived by his daughters, Lisa Marie Johnson, Sherry Lynn Johnson, Laura Aleen Johnson; and son, Nicholas Allen Johnson; brothers, Larry Johnson, Fred Johnson, Mike Johnson, Bryan Johnson, Phillip Weans; sisters, Sandra Henson, Ruth Pullen and Shirley Yancey; grandchildren, Lindsay, Tyler, Matthew, Mallory, Tzena, Lorenza, Drew, Dustin, Tiffany, Jason; great-grandchildren, Cody, Sophia, Raylinn, Kiara, Odin, Khira. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Weans, Thomas Weans, George Weans; and his sister, Cheryl Walker; grandchildren, Dexter Lingle and Keith Finney Jr.
A memorial visitation and celebration of Rex's life begins at noon on May 30, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 1800 Saint George Road, Evansville, Indiana. www.sunsetevansville.com
The traditional service will be at 6 p.m. and officiated by Pastor Tim Garrett and there will be full military rites performed by the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans.
