Jay V. Rhodes
Jay V. Rhodes, 86, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Deaconess Hospital.
Jay was born in Evansville, Ind., on May 31, 1928 to the late J.V. and Alice (Tuley) Rhodes. He graduated from Bosse High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War in the 101st Airborne Division. Jay worked at National City Bank in the Trust Department, at Delta Drilling Company, and was the Co-Owner of R.L. Jeffries Trucking Company. He retired as Owner and President of Banner Truck and Trailer Sales. Jay was a Past-President of the Evansville Country Club and is a member of the Kennel Club. He was also a member of the Hadi Temple and a 50-year 32nd Degree Mason. Jay was a former member of First Baptist Church and Forest Hills Baptist Church, and a longtime supporter of the Salvation Army and the Evansville Rescue Mission. He enjoyed traveling to Florida and to the cabin in Lake City, Colo. He especially enjoyed the family trip they took to Ireland for Kate's and his 50th Wedding Anniversary. Jay was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He always found time for family and never missed a grandchild's sporting event.
Jay is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryne D. "Kate" (Jeffries) Rhodes; daughters, Nancy Kelley and Suzan and Randy Williams, both of Evansville; grandchildren, Kristen (Brian) Joseph, Ryan (Heather) Kelley, Patrick (Katie) Kelley, Jay Williams and Barrett Williams; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brennen Joseph, Kaleigh and Addison Kelley, Gavin and Avery Kelley and Jazmine and Boston Williams; and by his sister, Joy Lee Lea, of Ellenwood, Ga.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may visit from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, Ind., 47711.
A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
