Melvin A. (Mel) Carter
Melvin A. (Mel) Carter, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at his daughter's home in Estancia, New Mexico surrounded by his family. Mel was a loving husband; father, brother, son and friend.
He was born on April 1, 1925, in Evansville, IN, and lived and went to school in Spottsville, KY. After graduation he served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was employed at Servel in Evansville for 11 years and then Whirlpool Corporation where he retired in 1987 as their Traffic Manager. He was the past President of Delta Nu Transportation Fraternity; past President of Transportation Club of Evansville and attended St. Theresa Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling across the United States.
Mel was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mona June "Junie" Carter; parents, Bert and Myrtle Carter; and sister, Joyce Mitchell.
Survivors include daughter, Sandra Carter-Mayes and husband, Bruce; two grandsons, William Mayes and wife, Ann and Kodie Mayes, all of Estancia, New Mexico; brother, Preston E. Carter and wife, Sharron, of Spottsville, KY; several nieces and nephews.
Mel touched many people's lives over the past 89 years and will be fondly remembered as "MAC Daddy" to many of us.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Henderson, KY, with the Pastor Chuck Tidd officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
