James Curtis Hayden
Evansville, Ind.
James Curtis Hayden, 85, of Newburgh, Ind., passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his home.
Jim was born in Evansville, Ind., on March 25, 1929 to the late James and Ruth Jane (Craft) Hayden. Jim started his working career at the age of 16; he worked at Western Southern Telegram where he rode his bike to deliver the telegrams. During the war he worked at the Evansville Shipyards on the LST. He then went on to work for various companies as a delivery driver and then retired from Guardian Automotive, which was once Windsor Plastics as a production supervisor after 38 years of service. Christ was most important to Jim. He faithfully served as a board member of Victory Chapel Church of the Nazarene. Jim enjoyed being the song leader at church, playing his trumpet and singing in the church choir and quartets. He was an avid car enthusiast, where he was a member of the car club "Hot Rods" and the Volkswagon Club.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene (Wells) Hayden; daughter, Debbie Ann (Scott) Daywalt; son, James "Kent" Hayden, all of Newburgh; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hayden, of Evansville, Ind.; grandchildren, Rachel Leslie, Ryan Daywalt (Patty), Lesley Daywalt (fiance, Andy Smith); great-grandchildren, Brenden Leslie, William Ryan Daywalt and Olivia Daywalt; sister, Marilyn (Phil) Eigsti, of Tulsa, Okla.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; by his sister, Ruby Hayden; and by his brother, Clifford Hayden.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47711 with Pastor Mike Claypool of First Christian Church in Newburgh and Chaplain John Hilbert of Gentiva Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Thursday.
