Madeline Duncan Lamar, 61, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at The Heartford House. She was born on July 27, 1952, to the late Thomas Rushing Duncan and Bertha Elizabeth Castlen Duncan. She graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1970. She earned an Associate's Degree from Stratford Women's College and then went on to graduate from Patricia Stevens Finishing School both are located in Atlanta, Georgia, and attended American Airlines Academy in Dallas, Texas. Madeline retired from Mead-Johnson Nutritional/Bristol-Myers Squibb Company where she worked in the corporate travel department for 20 years. She also worked for Air Kentucky Airlines as a customer service manager, was employed for two years with Ambassador Travel Company, and was a customer representative with Vectren Utilities Company in Evansville.
Since childhood Madeline enjoyed singing in church choirs which included Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro, St. Mary, and St. Anthony Catholic Churches in Evansville, the Diocesan Choir of Evansville and the Evansville Gospel Choir, and the Philharmonic Gospel Choir. She also enjoyed herb gardening, listening to all kinds of music, kitty cats, but most of all the love and joy in her life was spending time with her family. Madeline will be sorely missed by her family and friends who knew her well. She led a beautiful life that she shared with all those around her. She was Aunt Maddie to her nieces and nephews, greats included, and her love for them abounded. She also looked forward to the newest addition, little Sarah Madeline.
She also was preceded in death by her loving grandmother who raised her, Eloda Mary Castlen; and a sister, Sheila Duncan.
She is survived by her husband David Lamar; a son, Ronald Thrash of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine (Kenneth) Williams and Dina (Sam) Smith all of Owensboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Clark officiating. Burial to follow in St. Peter of Alcantara Cemetery in Stanley. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Owensboro Humane Society, 3101 W Second St., Owensboro, KY 42301, Vanderburgh Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Dr., Evansville, IN 47710, and The Heartford House, 2914 Old Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303.
