James R. "Jim" Hayes, age 89, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Deaconess VNA Plus Charlier Hospice Center.
Jim was a painter and a member of Painter's Local #156. He had also worked for Pierre Funeral Home; as a reserve deputy for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department, as the constable of Darmstadt and served as the Fire Chief for the Perry Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Masonic Lodge #64 F&AM and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving Jim are his wife of 68 years, Mildred (Adams) Hayes; two daughters, Linda Stokes and Kim (Jeff) Witty; three sons, Terry (Carol) Hayes, Steve (Betty) Hayes and Keith (Glenda) Hayes, all of Evansville; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Cora Mae (Rogers) Hayes; an infant son, Roger Charles Hayes; and by a sister, Elsie Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Poole, KY. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
