Josephine (Effinger) Commens, age 96, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at North Park Nursing Center. Josephine was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and was a former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church for many years.
Josephine enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and was famous for her angel food cakes and lemon pies.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Russel Commens. Six daughters: Mary Jo Commens, Christine (Fred) Waitman, Jean (Jim) Butler, Anne (Bob) Weil, Carol (Tom) McKinney, Ruth Ellen (Larry) Lutz all of Evansville, and her son, Paul Commens of Evansville. Also surviving is her sister Cecelia Froehlich of Tucson, Arizona.
Survivors include grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Swegan, Jessica (Corey) Richmond, Jacqueline, Jeanna and Joseph Butler, Rachel (Eric) Weil, Emily and Adam Weil, Katherine, Patrick and Russel McKinney, Laura (Kasey) Eickhoff and Noah Lutz, along with three great grandchildren, Annabel, Alex and Audrey Swegan and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Anthony, Leonard, and Carl Effinger and sisters, Mary Ann Effinger, Frances Emge, Helen Mahler, Barbara Baker and Rita Irving and brothers-in-law, Edward and Allen Commens.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Rev. Paul Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday July 16, 2014 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:30 AM Thursday July 17, 2014 until service time at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Online condolences may be left online at www.pierrefuneralhome.com
