Ella Mae Fischer
Ella Mae Fischer, 92 of Yankeetown, Indiana (Newburgh) passed away at 7:10 am, Friday, August 1, 2014 at Woodlands Golden Living Center in Newburgh.
Ella was born August 9, 1921 in Crocker, MO to the late James and Anna Ella (Anderson) Pate. Ella was a charter member of American Baptist East Church. She taught Sunday School for children of all ages for many years at Eastern Heights Baptist Church, of which she was also a charter member. She was a committed and loyal worker for God and His church. Her sense of humor and a practical outlook was always a great example to those who knew and loved her.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind John, her husband of 73 years. She told everyone numerous times John was the "love of her life." Also surviving are her son, Marc and his wife Darlene as well as her daughter Jane Fischer.
In her younger years she worked in retailing on Main Street in Evansville. She also worked during WWII as an inspector of P47 airplanes. Ella loved sports. She followed basketball, baseball, football, golf and bowling. For many years she played golf in the summer and bowled during the fall and winter. Ella's family would like to thank the staff of Woodland's in Newburgh for the compassionate care provided her.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Monday, August 4, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Pastor Peck Axton officiating. Burial will be in Bates Hill Cemetery, Yankeetown.
Friends may call from 3 pm until 6 pm, Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home and again from 9 am until time of service at 10 am, Monday.
