Went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday August 3,2014. She was born and resided in
Evansville her entire life Dorothy was a life long member of Calvary Temple where she enjoyed
Singing solos.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Russell Bates Jr, her daughter in law Tammy Bates
and her brother Ray Beadle.
Surviving her are three sons, Michael Bates, Rev. Jerry Bates and his fiance Dawna Stone, son Terry (Joy)
Bates. Five grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Bates, Kari (Duane)Lough, Kristy (Steve) Day, TJ Bates,
Matthew Bates and his fiance MacKenzie. Three step grandchildren Rob (Morgan) Stricklin, Ryan
(Ashley) Stricklin, Jonathan (Stephany) Stricklin. Great grandchildren Drew and Brooke Lough, Noah
and Liam Bates. Step great grandchildren, Jayden, McKayla Joy, Camden Stricklin, Brody Stricklin,
Raelynn and Reid Stricklin and two more on the way. She was truly blessed by her family.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held Thursday August 7, 2014 at 1:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Park, with the Rev. Greg Hitchcock officiating.
Family and friends may visit with the family from 4-7 pm on Wednesday and 12:00 until the time of
the service on Thursday.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Deaconess VNA Hospice and staff members Tracy,
Amy, Melissa and our wonderful volunteer Billy for the compassionate care they gave Dorothy.
