Jerry Glore Obituary

Jerry Wayne Glore
Evansville, Ind. — Jerry Wayne Glore, 68, of Evansville, IN, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011 at home surrounded by his family.
If there was one thing Jerry Glore wanted people to know about him, it was that he loved the Lord. So it seemed only appropriate for Easter Sunday to be the day he would be called home to meet his Lord and Savior in person. Jerry had dedicated the later years of his life to the study of God's word and sharing the scriptures with others. He faced death without fear, and with confidence of life eternal.
People who knew Jerry also know Gloria, his wife, best friend and soulmate for nearly 49 years. Next to God and family, their greatest love was music. Jerry was well known as one of Evansville's most talented guitarists and entertainers. The couple performed pop, bluegrass and jazz throughout the Tri-State area for many years, and even took their popular act on the road across the country and Canada. Jerry also enjoyed giving his musical gift to God, playing and singing gospel music for churches and special events.
Jerry had an amazing personality who loved to make people laugh, never taking himself too seriously. You may remember him as the origianl "Ben", who was pulled on water skis through a cornfield in one of the well-known Raben Tire commercials. Jerry's job at the Evansville State Hospital was more than just a way to make a living. He considered it an honor to help others and always showed great compassion for the patients he served.
Jerry was very proud of his son, Tim Glore, who performed with his parents as a pianist and drummer, and served many years in the United States Air Force. Survivors besides Gloria and Tim include his daughter-in-law, Tammy Glore; two grandchildren, Sara and Jesse Glore; his sister, Wanda Schoenbaum and brother-in-law, Bill Schoenbaum; four nieces and four nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Shellie Glore.

Jerry was a member of the Pentecostal Prayer Center where he taught bible study every Sunday. He was born November 14, 1942 and graduated in 1960 from F.J. Reitz High School.
Jerry fought valiently against leukemia for the past four years and was aided greatly in his battle by a stem cell transplant in which his sister, Wanda, was the donor. The family wishes to express thanks to Dr. Anthony Stephens and staff for their care and compassion through his struggle. Dr. Robert Nelson and team at Indiana University Medical Center for their commitment to Jerry's treatment, and to Susan and Jan with Vista Care Hospice. To further research in the fight against this devastating disease, contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
Services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, Evansville, IN, with Rev. Art Christmas and Rev. David Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander Memorial Park.
Family and friends may visit from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday or from 9:00 AM until service time on Thursday at Browning Funeral Home.

Gloria and Tim,
There's no way to say how much I liked and respected Jerry. It didn't take long to discover that he was a good man, a better musician, and an even better Christian. His loss dims the light of this world, and brightens the light of the next. May God bless you.

So sorry to hear about Jerry. We first met on the streets of Denver when I saw a car with an Evansville plate. It was Jerry and Gloria and they told me where they were playing. I fell in love with their music, then had to move back to Evansville. When I got here I once again found Jerry and Gloria and started following them again. Just saw them about a month ago and we had a good laugh about meeting on a busy street in Denver. Jerry will be missed by all who knew him.

My memories of Jerry and Gloria go back to when Pat Moore played the drums for their group. Later, I had the pleasure of hearing them several times at St. Matthew's Church, where his sister is the organist.. It was always a joy to see how much Jerry loved the Lord when they sang. Jerry will be joining a heavenly chorus now. To the family, just remember that there is a "Hello" after good-bye. You will be with him much longer than you'll be without him.
