Bill Koester, 74, of Evansville, IN went to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 12, 2013.
He was born March 10, 1938 to Urban and Ada Koester who preceded him in death along with 3 grandchildren. Bill owned and operated Koester Companies until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church and enjoyed golfing, woodworking, flying, trap shooting, hunting and spending time with his family and dog, Buddy.
Bill was a local, self-made businessman who started out farming with his father. In the 1960's, he ventured out on his own in the bulldozing business and Koester Contracting, which became a major player in the earthmoving business. Over the years, he expanded his business with new ventures including: Koester Equipment, Inc., Koester Paving (Asphalt), Koester Environmental Services, Southwind Construction Corp. (Dredging), KVS Express, Inc. (Trucking), Vigo coal Company, Southern Indiana Dock and Southern Indiana Materials, which became known as Koester Companies.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Louise (Welborn); sons, William J. (Tammy) Koester of Evansville, IN and Daniel L. (Connie) Koester of St. Wendel, IN; daughters, Leanne R. (Donnie) Seibert and Jennifer G. (Bernie) Byers all of St. Wendel, IN; 8 grandchildren; 2 step grandsons; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Schickel and Linda Mercer both of St. Wendel, IN.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday January 15, 2012 at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Ave., Evansville, IN 47710 and will continue from 2:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Thursday January 17, 2013 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, 10542 W. Boonville New Harmony Rd, Evansville, IN 47720 with Pastor Mike Deeg and Fr. Ed Schnur officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
