Dr. Bob E. Morgan, 86, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Sem Haven Residential Facility in Milford, Ohio, following his birthday celebration. His wife of 62 years was by his side.
Dr. Morgan was born March 9, 1927, to John and Mary Hazel (Drumright) Morgan, in West Plains, Mo. He grew up in northern Indiana and served in the Navy at the end of World War II. He chose to spend his life's work in education. He graduated from Osceola Elementary School, Mishawaka High School, Indiana State Teachers College and Indiana University, where he earned both his Master's and Doctoral degrees in Education.
He moved to Evansville in 1949 to teach at Baker School, then Vogel School, and was principal at Tekoppel School for 10 years. After serving one year as the first Executive Director of the Community Action Program of Evansville, Dr. Morgan was a member of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Central Office staff until his retirement in 1992. For many years he was the EVSC Deputy Superintendant of Instructional Services.
Dr. Morgan was an active member and leader at Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as Lay Leader and Chairman of the finance committee. He also served on the personnel committee and the administrative board.
He believed that community service is vital, serving on many non-profit boards and coaching youth baseball. He loved the outdoors: hunting quail, training his hunting dogs, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred May (Beaty) Morgan; daughter, Beth A. Curtis and her husband, Charles, of Loveland, Ohio; son, Thomas A. Morgan and his wife, Carla, of Bloomington, Ind.; sisters, Norma Fread, of Carmel, Ind., and Karen Swank, of Muncie, Ind.; grandchildren, Katie and Mike Curtis, and Mindy and Cara Morgan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Morgan in 2007.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Al Amstutz officiating. Burial will take place 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, in Shiloh Cemetery near Whittington, Ill.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
