Vollie Carr, 81, Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Evansville, died August 5, 2013 in Jacksonville.
He was born on May 6, 1932 to Joseph and Anna Carr, the 10th of 11 children. Vollie was an exceptional athlete and was inducted into the Mount Vernon High School Hall of Fame as a Most Valuable Player. For many years, Vollie was a farmer in Union Township and Wabash Island in Kentucky. Later, he was employed by Hahn Inc, selling farm equipment. In later years, Vollie became very successful as a salesman of turf equipment for several companies. Vollie enjoyed spending time with family members, especially his older sister, Nellie and nephew, Tony Carr. He greatly enjoyed several road trips with his son, Dale. One of these trips was a Christmas holiday at his son Steve's home in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Helen, Hilary, Bob, Aleene, Harry, Gene, Wayne, and Ottie; and his former wife, Margaret Jane Carr.
He is survived by his children, Karen Godsey of Mount Vernon, Dale Carr of Dallas, Texas, Bruce Carr (Lynn) of Evansville, Steve Carr (Jennifer) of League City, Texas, Valerie Zapp (John) of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Edna Crawford of Evansville, Nellie Deig of Mount Vernon; 14 grandchildren; a great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
