Ermon Hoover, 88 of Evansville passed away at 6:18 pm, Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital.
Ermon was born December 3, 1924 in Evansville the son of Ermon, Sr. and Dorothy (Cromwell) Hoover. He enlisted in the Merchant Marine during WWII. After 27 years serving as a Sergeant on the Evansville Police Department, he retired in 1984 and embarked on a second career as Manager, Design Engineering at Ball Plastics. Ermon was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Downtown where he served two terms as president of the Church Council. He was also a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and past president of the Welborn Hospital Auxiliary. By listing his participation in the following fraternal organizations, you will more clearly understand his passion for the spirituality and simplicity of Freemasonry. Ermon served as: Past Worshipful Master of Reed Masonic Lodge #316 F&AM; Past Potent Master of the Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, and a 33rd Degree Member; Past Worthy Patron of the Evansville Chapter of the Eastern Star # 555 and a member of the Hadi Temple Arab Patrol.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patsy Ruth (Houston) Hoover, his parents and one brother, Wayne Hoover, Baytown, TX.
He is survived by children, Michael Hoover (Beverly) of Bedford, NH and Julia Phelps (William) of Evansville; grandchildren, Christopher Phleps (Tina); Kirsten Perry (Christpher) of Bedford, NH and Amanda Phelps of Danville, IN; and great grandchildren, Olivia, Zachary and Kelsey Phelps; Evan and Nolette Perry of Bedford, NH.
Also surviving are brothers and sister; Donald Hoover, Phoenix, AZ, Vernon Hoover, Tempe, AZ, Adrian Hoover, Ventura, CA; and Gary Hoover, Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Carol Ann Bailey, Cibolo, TX.
The family would like to express their thanks to the splendid staff at West River Health Campus for the care Ermon received during his two years residency at West River Assisted Living.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Monday, September 23, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Pastor Jeff Crowe officiating. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 3 pm until 7 pm, Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel with an Evansville Police Department Walk Through at 4 pm, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Walk Through at 6:15 pm, a Hadi Shrine Hospital Staff Walk Through at 6:25 pm and a Reed Masonic Lodge #316 Memorial Service at 6:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ermon's name to Hadi Hospital Staff Transportation Fund, Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, PO Box 1, Evansville, IN 47701.
