I did not know Don by name but sat behind him every week at 8:00 am Sunday Mass. I missed him this week. May he rest in peace.

In the fall of 1960, I entered my 1st grade classroom at Holy Redeemer School. It was on that day that I met Don. As several of you know, Don and I became best of friends and our time together has left me with some very good childhood memories. High School and College years took us in opposite directions so we didn't see each other near as often. In 1975, I called Don and asked him to be a groomsman at my wedding. A short while later he called and asked me to be his groomsman. For years, with our wives help, we exchanged well wishes at Christmas. I often told myself that I had to take the time to get with Don. As I read the news about Don in the paper yesterday, I realized that I had waited too long. Today I share your sadness and my prayers are with Don and all of you. I'm going to miss my good buddy. Make the time to reach out to a friend. You won't know how important that is until you know its no longer possible
